“A single mom who works two jobs, who loves her kids and never stops. With gentle hands and the heart of a fighter. I’m a survivor.”

Those words sound familiar? You might have heard the theme song from the TV show “Reba” if you were anywhere near the Boone Convocation Center Saturday afternoon.

More than 200 women from the Nashville Rescue Mission dressed in their Sunday best, loaded a few coach buses, and made their way to the Boone building for a luncheon fundraiser, hosted by the Rescue Mission. They were joined by an additional large group of women who came to the event in support of the nonprofit.

The Nashville Rescue Mission took advantage of the Boone Convocation Center’s facilities as the event space for the afternoon.

The featured speaker was a woman named Jill Neely, a graduate of the Women’s Life Recovery Program, as well as—you guessed it—Reba McEntire.

The country star-turned actress made her Trevecca debut alongside Caroline Kole, up-and-coming singer, as the event’s featured entertainment.

McEntire, a supporter of the Rescue Mission, asked one of the staff members how she could help at the Mission, and they told her about the event. Without skipping a beat, McEntire decided she wanted to be involved.

“It’s a part of our community. As neighbors, we need to get in there and volunteer and help [these people] out and get back on their feet,” McEntire said.

She has seen that the Mission is doing that, so she wanted to help, she explained.

McEntire sang three songs, including her well-known theme song from her show, for the women at the event.
